Windows Explorer keeps crashing! System Restore won't work. System Recovery didn't help.?

Whenever I try to open a folder by doubleclicking, or open a folder in the tree view, I get the following error message:

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library

Program: C:\Windows\explorer.exe

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information.

I have no idea how to contact the application's support team, or why this has started happening.

I am desperate to resolve this. Can anybody help?

Update virus protection. Uninstall Explorer, clean cache, defrag and scan disk, reinstall Explorer. Hope that helps.

Here is the website for Microsoft Tech Support: http://support.microsoft.com/
Reply:You have a virus. I dont remember the name but the same thing happened to me.
Reply:You could try re-installing Windows, but you'll lose a lot of ur stuff...or you could re-download the Visual C++ library
Reply:You have a virus. Update your virus definitions. Turn on your comp in the safe mode and scan your entire disk for viruses. After scanning the disk. Install "Internet Explorer" to replace any corrupted file. I think this should do the trick...........but if the problem persists then try system restore.
